UNREAD AND DEAD

by Bill Kochman

08-12-2019

For years it sat upon the mantel,
Not once opened and never read,
Its owner lived the high life,
Choosing earthly things instead.

Yes, that man satisfied his body,
Lots of women, drinking wine red,
He had all the world could offer,
But he was never spiritually fed.

That holy Book called out to him,
He just stared at it with dread,
So hardening his heart against it,
Not letting God get into his head.

But his days passed by so quickly,
And alas, he lay sick and old in bed,
Still refusing to accept dear Jesus,
Sadly, that man was lost and dead.
